Dr. Sajid Mahmood Shahzad threw light on the concept of the blue economy and the economic possibilities arising out of the discipline on the occasion. He said that MUL has established a new department of Maritime Affairs to enable the students to develop an understanding of the emerging field of study. He said that about 60% of the world's population is living in coastal areas, adding that oceans are the source of livelihood for three billion people.

Vice-chancellor MUL said that 90% of the world trade happens through seas. He said that the solution to the food crisis lies in accessing the treasure hidden in the depth of the oceans. He said that the volume of trade associated with oceans has surpassed 24 trillion dollars. He said that Pakistan can become a prosperous country by exploiting the oceanic resources. He said that the sea is Pakistan’s lifeline and the key to its progress.
Speaking on the occasion, Ibrar-ul-Haq said that whenever he comes to MQI, he always gets new information. He said that the educational institutions set up by Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri have the capability to generate knowledge that is capable of answering the questions of not just the present but also the future. He said that MUL is producing a generation of educated Pakistanis. He said that Allah Almighty has blessed Pakistan with unlimited mineral resources, adding that what we need is to develop technology and upgrade our skill-set to benefit from this great wealth.
